Wright is Wrong! Set Love Free!
The Wright amendment has been around since 1979 and exists solely for the purpose of stifling competition. Any commercial airliner flying out of regional airports close to DFW are limited to flying only to states that immediatly border Texas (New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't our country have laws against blocking free competition of businesses? Don't anti-trust and anti-monopoly laws protect businesses from unfair assaults on their ability to do business? Why, then, is our government keeping their fingers in north Texas' transportation pie?
It's not about partisanship - both Republicans and Democrats have looked the other way on this one. It's not about supporting the area's economy - planes flying out of Love Field will generate just as much in taxes and other revenues as planes flying out of DFW. This is about nothing more than American Airlines, a bloated, ill-managed, poorly run, bad customer service airline, having local representatives by the balls. It's about American airlines being more interested in having political influence than happy customers. It's an ugly example of government of the corporation, by the corporation and for the corporation.
Somebody needs to put a stop to it.
I'm not holding my breath.

Last night, I created a new blog for showcasing blog-entries and chose this one of yours to feature HERE.
I'll have to ask this guy about what he told me a few years ago to see if I have it right, but he's from Muncie, and they have their own airport there.
It's now limited in what can be flown out of there, and I think it's by some sort of restriction along the lines of no commercial flights being allowed to leave a smaller airport that is within 100 miles of a larger airport (or something along those lines).
Next time I talk to Paul (Has anyone ever noticed that a whole bunch of my friends seem to be named Paul? LOL), I'll have to ask him about that.
I do remember that he--along with his wife and son--find it inconvenient to drive each other all the way to Indianapolis these days to let the person(s) flying out off at the airport instead of going a few miles north of their town where the person flying out was once able to at least catch a commuter plane to the Indy airport--and, in some cases, a somewhat larger plane into another state.
Happy Flying!
AJ :-)
